Weekly activities
Mondays : Globe Café : run by Friends International
There are two Globe Cafés - with free coffee, tea, cold drinks and home-made cakes - open once a week for international students and scholars attending the University of Birmingham. The Cafés are organised and run by teams of volunteers from several local churches who give their time gladly to provide a welcoming atmosphere, a place for international students of all nations, religions and races to relax, practise their English and build friendships both with local people and with other international students. There is a different programme each week (e.g. a cultural or musical theme, or a fun activity, or a food evening) and also the opportunity to hear about other activities organised for international students.
The Globe Café on campus meets on Monday evenings 8:00 pm - 10:00pm at Priorsfield on Edgbaston Road (Building G18 - see map). The Globe Café in Selly Oak meets on Monday evenings 8:00pm - 10:00 pm at St Wulstan's Church, Alton Road (opposite the Tesco mini supermarket and petrol station on the Bristol Road).
Thursdays : English Club : run by Agape
This is downstairs in the Chaplaincy (next to the Guild) from 5.00pm - 7.00pm on Thursdays. English Club is a free opportunity for everyday conversational English practice and a discussion using Bible texts. It starts with relaxed informal time with drinks and cake.
